Hi,

A few weeks ago I asked VirginBlue (via their Twitter feed) about where paintball stood when it came to the extra 5kg sporting allowance for checked luggage, as it seems a bit hit and miss.

After a few emails back and forth, and learning that their official list is based around what the AIS considers a sport, Dean from VirginBlue took it upon himself to fight for our cause and get an official ruling on their guidelines. And thanks to his hard work, Paintball has been added to the list of sports, and now will officially qualify for the extra 5kg allowance.

So thanks VirginBlue for supporting Paintball and giving us players a little more room to move when packing.

TL;DR - VirginBlue are cool and now consider Paintball a sport so enjoy the extra 5kg allowance when you next fly.

Nice work spice. I guess this doesn't really affect sydney-siders as much as the rest of us (in 2010 anyway). I know getting a gear bag under 23kg is near impossible - I actually got rid of my Eclipse razor gearbag and down graded to the lowland so I can't take as much stuff!!!

Yes they have been doing this for some time and as stated it is very hit and miss and you can normally talk them around so it's good that it is formalised now.

So now just say your got paintball gear and book your bags in as restricted and let them know you have your burst disc removed or your reg off your bottle and your marker is in a locked bag i normally cable tie the zips as well.
When restricting your bags you also guarantee your gear to be safe as they arn't on the general carousel, you pick and sign for them at oversize baggage and normaly beats the general luggage out.

On another note you are allowed a carry on bag, laptop and suit bag if needed so take advantage of the carry on and take your clothes in that.

Also if you are traveling with your team i normally book everyone in and if they are on the same itinerary you can spread your allowance across the lot so with us we normaly have 7 or 8 people so it's all good.

Nice work spice

Good job Spice,

The girl at QANTAS check in told me that Tracksuits didn't count as sporting goods, so I told her my bag was full of hardware and watched all my team mates split, she finally accepted when I offered to pull out one of the guns and show her

Mr G, don't lie - that hardware you were referring to was a giant black dildo called the "the Enforcer"

  for Virginblue. I think this support alone is a great thing for the sport overall. This has made me rethink who I travel with should I ever fly.

Well done Virginblue.
